Biography

Dr. David S. Weiss received his PhD in Microbiology from New York University, studying how interactions between toll-like receptors take a part in fighting bacterial infections. He went on to complete his postdoctoral training at Stanford University, focusing on virulence mechanisms of Francisella and the role of inflammasome in host defense.

Now Dr. Weiss is at Emory University as an associate professor at Emory Vaccine Center and as an assistant professor at Emory University School of Medicine. He also is the director of the Emory Antibiotic Research Center and is a researcher at Yerkes National Primate Research Center.

His research interests are in development of novel vaccines, emerging infectious diseases, and microbial pathogenesis. Projects in his lab focus on highly antibiotic-resistant gram-negative bacteria and working to address antibiotic resistance mechanisms in order to restore efficacy of antibiotics. Publications on his work can be found here.
